Virginia “Jodie” Roberts passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior on July 3, 2024, where she was reunited with her beloved husband of sixty-three years (Rev. R.T. Roberts), her mother and father (Willis and Nettie Anderson), her sister and three brothers, and many other friends and family. She is survived by her sisters, Betty McCampbell and Edna Underwood, son, Mike Roberts (wife Patricia), daughter Robin Hicks (Scott), five grandchildren - David Hicks (wife Tami, Tyler Roberts (wife Journee), Laura Harris (husband Kyle), Brad Roberts, and Brannon Ritterbush (husband Kinsey) - twelve great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins and friends.
Jodie’s life was marked by an exceptional joy and commitment to serving others. Born and raised on a tobacco farm in Corryton, Tennessee, she married R.T. soon after graduating high school and moved across the country as he served in the United States Air Force. When R.T. surrendered to a call to ministry after a tour in Korea, Jodie jumped into ministry with him, serving eleven congregations in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia in a variety of roles: pianist, organist, children’s choir director, Sunday School teacher, and at every stop, an exemplary “pastor’s wife.” She continued playing piano for local congregations until age 85. For nearly thirty years, she also worked as an adjudicator in the State of Tennessee Unemployment Office, cheerfully assisting neighbors in need in their search for employment and benefits.
Jodie will be best remembered for the love and laughter she shared. During her 93 years, she exhibited a gladness and warmth all-too-rare in this world. She was extraordinarily kind, patient, humble, and tender. Her house was filled with good food, good times, and plenty of hugs and kisses. She faithfully served her family and husband, her neighbors, and her Lord.
A funeral service will be held Monday, July 8, 2024, at 6:00 PM in the chapel of Poole Funeral Home formerly Ralph Buckner Funeral Home, with a private burial to follow. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday evening.
We invite you to send a message of condolence and view the Roberts family guestbook at www.pfhcleveland.com.
