Steve Riggs, 72, of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019 in a local hospital. He was born and raised in Bradley County, and was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church.
He had worked at Whirlpool for 46 years and had also worked as a firefighter with the Bradley County Fire Department for over 25 years. He served in the National Guard for seven years. He loved helping people; he enjoyed fishing and watching the Tennessee Vols Football games; and he also enjoyed working at the fire department. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Denver Riggs and Lillie Mae Carter; and sisters, Judy Gates and Debbie Wolfe.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Gail Jackson Riggs; two children, Lisa Pell and husband Ricky, and Robbie Riggs and wife Lindsay, all of Cleveland; four grandchildren, Dylan Riggs, Shelby Riggs, Shanda Bender and husband, Adam and Hayley Millsaps; three great grandchildren, McKinley Bender, Bayley Bender, and Hadley Millsaps; sister, Bobbie Woods; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Adam Harden and Dewey Woody officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors, a white dove release ceremony, and the playing of bagpipes concluding the service.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the funeral home.
