Steve Lynn Cross

Steven “Steve” Lynn Cross, 72, of Cleveland, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 27, 2024, and is now safe in our Shepherd’s arms.    He was a 1970 graduate of Polk County High School.  Steve proudly served our country in the Navy.  After the Navy, he graduated from Cleveland State in 1979.  He began his career with Olin Chemicals followed by NA Industries where he retired in 2021.  He developed many wonderful, life-long and life-changing friendships.  Both in his work and personal life, Steve did more than was expected – then he did some more.  He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, grilling, and canning.  He was well known for his homemade pickle recipe and shared it with many of his friends. They were the best!    Steve was born on October 11, 1951, to the late Homer and Franziska “Fanny” Cross.  He was preceded in death by his precious wife, Shirley Cross and their son, Rodney Lynn Cross, who passed away unexpectedly; sisters Mary Lou Sluder and Janet Teague. He spent many years with his family taking trips and enjoying life.    Several years passed and Steve met a wonderful friend.  As was Steve’s way, he loved, laughed, and helped meet the needs of his “second forever family.”  He is survived by his best friend and the love of his life, Janie Potter; her son and daughter-in-law David and Gina Potter and their three children, AnnaKate Potter, Maggie (Jordan) Lewis, and Kaylee Potter.    The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 3, 2024, followed by funeral services at 2:00 pm in the Poole Funeral Home Chapel in Cleveland, Tennessee, with David Potter officiating.  Interment will be at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, with the Navy Honor Guard rendering Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chattanooga Rescue Mission, P.O.
