Scott Harlan Phillips

Scott Harlan Phillips, 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Cleveland on Saturday, January 2, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was a native of Lawrence, Kansas, and was a proud Jayhawks fan. He received his B.S. in Geological Engineering from the University of Kansas and his M.S. in Geology from the University of Illinois. Before moving to Cleveland, he had lived in Houston, Texas, for over 40 years. His professional career had taken him down several pathways; Chevron/Standard Oil of California (1954-1975), Howell Corporation (1975-1979), Fields Energy Resources, Inc. (1979-1982), Memorial Group Bank (1982-1987); Federal Equity Receiver (1982-1985). He had served as a Board Member of the Ocoee Foundation, Inc. (2001 to 2020). He was a leader in many community and professional organizations. He had served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Petroleum Refiners Association (1978-1980), Chairman of the Houston American Petroleum Institute (1976-1978), and he was awarded the Distinguishing Alumni Award from the University of Kansas in 1983. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Clower Phillips; two daughters, Margaret Phillips Sheehan and husband John Joseph Sheehan, Jr., and Patricia Phillips Philips and husband Daniel Simon Philips; four grandchildren, Kathleen Sheehan Kupchynsky and husband Roman Julian Kupchynsky III, John Joseph Sheehan III, Scott Nelson Philips, and Molly Barrett Philips; one great-grandchild, Knox Roman Kupchynsky; and several nieces and nephews.
