Samuel McConnell

April 16, 1935 — July 18, 2021

Monroe McConnell, 86, a resident of Cleveland,  passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 18, 2021. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 67 years, Joyce Belcher McConnell. He is also survived by his daughter, Teresa McConnell Torbett and her husband Mickey Torbett of Cleveland, granddaughter Amanda Torbett of Chattanooga, grandson Jackson Walker of Cleveland, and son-in-law Todd Walker of Cleveland, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Tracey McConnell Walker in 2020.

Sam was the youngest and last remaining child of John Houston McConnell and Lucy Reynolds McConnell. His siblings, all deceased, included Bernice Tinsley, T.R. Little, Gladys McConnell Lipps, Arven McConnell, Nellie McConnell Carson, Phillip McConnell, Fletcher McConnell, John H. (Shorty) McConnell, Marjorie McConnell Snyder, Clifford McConnell, and Freida McConnell Cronan. He was a 1953 graduate of Bradley Central High School, and was employed as the parts manager by C.C. Card Auto/Bob Card Ford for 42 years. Sam was a lifelong member and attendee of East Side Church of Christ.

Sam’s pride and joy was his family; he loved to tell them each how proud he was and how much he loved them any chance he got. Sam loved Parksville Lake and the time he spent there alongside his family and long time friends Kay and Neal Officer. From swimming across the widest parts of the lake as a teenager, to huge family dinners on the screened in porch, and pulling too many skiers behind the boat to count, the lake is a very special place for this family.

A celebration of his life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Ministers Jeff Archey and Bill Maynard officiating.  Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Alan Snyder, Tony Snyder, Kent Officer, Brian Officer, Steve McConnell, and Johnny Carson serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony and the playing of bagpipes will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

You may watch the service via live stream on Ralph Buckner Funeral Home’s Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or East Side Church of Christ.

We invite you to send a message of condolence and view the McConnell family guestbook at www.ralphbuckner.com.
