Richard Neil Hoveland

Richard Neil Hoveland, 75, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 6, 2023, at home while with his family. He was of the Methodist Faith and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Richard was born in Miami, Florida to his parents, Robert and Bettie Hoveland.

Richard, or "Rick" as his many loved ones knew him, started his journey on his parent's avocado farm in Homestead, Florida, which, according to his many captivating stories, was a lot of work but even more fun. In many ways, he started his journey a lot like he lived the rest of it. If there was a way to describe Rick the best words would be honest, sharp, hard-working, kind, adventurous, full of integrity, not to mention all-around the kind of man that everyone around him aspired to be. Rick lived his life full of passion and love. He was very successful in many business ventures, from real estate to insurance, to owning Sonny's Barbeques. He is said to have been the best connoisseur of Barbeque. If he set his mind to it, then it would be so. Rick also was an avid outdoorsman and was never wary of traveling to exotic places to fulfill his bounding sense of adventure.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bettie Hoveland.

He is survived by his adoring fiance Janet Moulton; three children, Kelli Hoveland of Thomasville, GA, Beth Hoveland of Augusta, GA, and Amanda Hoveland; special friend and business partner, Terry Calhoun (Dee) of Cleveland; one brother, Steve Hoveland (Judy) of Homestead, FL; four grandchildren, Devin Bryan, Kyle Hoveland, Courtney McInnis, and McKenna Wilson; and a niece, Sheree Hoveland.

A celebration of his life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2023 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Carl Glass officiating. A white dove release ceremony and the playing of bagpipes will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, just prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, Rick would have preferred donations go to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure.

We invite you to send a message of condolence and view the Hoveland family guestbook at www.ralphbuckner.com.
