Reverend Leroy Elliott

Reverend Leroy Elliott went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 13, 2022. He was the husband of Maggie Lena Ownby Elliott for 73 years. They were sweethearts at the age of 8 years old. Leroy was born to Reverend Carl and Bertha Mae Prince Elliott on December 6, 1931. Reverend Leroy was a loved pastor to many churches in Bradley and Polk Counties. He retired after 21 years serving in the Air Force. While stationed in Mary Esther, Florida, he helped start a mission which is now First Baptist Church of Mary Esther. While in the military, he served three tours overseas, in Okinawa, Philippines, and Viet Nam. At his death he was a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church where he once pastored.

Preceding him in death are his loving parents, Reverend Carl Elliott and Bertha Mae Prince Elliott; and two sisters, Elizabeth Wright and Etta Fraye Coffman.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Maggie Lena Ownby Elliott; two children, Caroline Elliott Mantooth (Larry), and Kenneth Leroy Elliott (Diane); four grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Liana Mantooth Webb (Tripp), Allyssa Mantooth Packett (Scott), Jacob Elliott (Faith), and Haley Elliott (fiancé Roy Reynolds and son, Cole); six great-grandchildren, Nathan Webb, Natalie Webb, Ayden Packett, Avery Packett, Morgan Elliott, and Adrian Elliott; one brother, Samuel Ralph Elliott; two sisters-in-law, Emma Ownby Ferguson, and Hettie Ownby Copeland. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A celebration of his life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2022, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and Crematory with Reverend Scottie Lyle and Reverend Homer Roberts officiating.  Interment will follow in Cedar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors. David Coffman, Arnold Truelove, Tim Mason, Gary Silvers, Bud Elliott, and Dewayne Cartwright will serve as pallbearers, with Billy Wayne Pierce and Ralph Mason serving as honorary pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony and the playing of the bagpipes will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at the funeral home.
