Rev. William Ira Curtis

February 11, 1931 — October 12, 2019

Rev. William I. Curtis, 88, of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2019. He was a member of South Cleveland Church of God.  William was born in Giles County, Pulaski, Tennessee on February 11, 1931.  He was born to Willie Curtis and Killie Louise Kimbrough-Curtis. William was a veteran of United States Army where he served in WWII.  In January of 1954 William came into the Church of God and on February 24, 1961 he was called into the ministry at the age of 30.  He pastored churches for over 45 years. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Willie Curtis and Killie Kimbrough-Curtis; siblings, Calvin Curtis, Cecil Curtis, and Thomas “Tommy” Curtis.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Velma “Joyce” Tosh Curtis of Cleveland; children; Jerry Curtis (Kim), Lashon Woods (Chris), Rachel Sue Walden (Greg), Crickett Randolph, and Dawn Perry; grandchildren Jennifer Curtis, Brandi Thomas, Andrew Curtis, Lacy Woods, Carissa McConnell, Jeremy Petree, Nikki Randolph, Savannah Perry, Will Perry, and Drake Perry; great-grandchildren Brooke Curtis, Kannon Curtis, Hunter Thomas, Ava Thomas, Tucker Thomas, Aspen Curtis, Shilo Curtis, Josiah Petree, Gabe Petree, Ridge McConnell, and Lakely McConnell; siblings Betty Brodwat, Rosie Higgingbothem, Harold Curtis, and Patsy Corris. 

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at South Cleveland Church of God with the Reverend Edwin Lipsey and the Reverend Chris Moody officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2019 in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Jeremy Petree, Andrew Curtis, Will Perry, Drake Perry, Peyton McConnell and Greg Walden serving as pallbearers. A white dove release, military honors and the playing of bagpipes will conclude the service.  

The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the church prior to the service.
