Margie Goins Schrader of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Villa Maria Retirement Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Margie was born on August 8, 1931, in Cleveland, to her parents Mamie Beard Davis and John Martin Davis. She had one sister, who died as an infant, and six brothers. She was a graduate of Bradley Central High School and worked at Cleveland Utilities before marrying James Edwin Goins, with whom she had two sons. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for many years and also attended Chilcutt United Methodist Church, after she and her husband Ed moved to his old family farm. After Ed died, Margie married Frank Schrader, who was a devoted husband and a good friend to her sons. Margie also returned to work at Cleveland Utilities for several years, where she had many dear friends.
Margie was a devoted wife, mother, and daughter. She loved to cook for her family and enjoyed entertaining. She also liked reading and collecting antiques. She had many friends in Cleveland and Chattanooga, as well as in Lake Charles, where she moved after becoming ill. After living for a time with her son Scott in Lake Charles, she moved to Villa Maria Retirement Center, where she developed many friendships. There she enjoyed visiting and watching movies, especially on Saturday afternoon, when she was joined by her son Brad. Margie accepted each change in her situation, whether it was moving to the farm or moving to Lake Charles, with a gentle spirit of acceptance.
Margie was predeceased by her beloved husbands, Ed and Frank, and by her mother and father. She was also predeceased by several brothers, Ralph Edward Davis, William James (Jay) Davis, Roy Martin Davis, George Thomas (Tommie) Davis, and Otis Randall Davis, and her sister, Robbie Lee Davis.
She is survived by her sons, Brad Goins and Scott Goins, both of Lake Charles, and by her youngest brother, Alvin Davis, husband of Beverly Davis, and by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Her friend Nancy Guinn continued to remain close to her and keep her advised of what was happening at home. Margie also left many friends at Villa Maria, both among residents and caregivers. The family would like to thank her recent caregivers Denise, Rubi, Cindy, and Desiree.
Margie died peacefully in her retirement apartment. Although she had declined during the last several years, she remained generally healthy and content, with her good nature and Christian charity evident to all who knew her.
May light perpetually shine upon you, Mom. We will miss you!
