Lela Mae Grant Cupit

Lela Mae Grant Cupit, 85, of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2020 at her residence, surrounded by her family.  She was a proud mother of 11 children and dedicated her life to caring for her family.  She had a passion for cooking and fishing and, above all, demonstrating her love for the Lord to everyone.  She was a beloved member of Michigan Avenue Baptist Church, and was cherished by her children and grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Alfred William Cupit; children Matthew Lynn Cupit and Mark Lane Cupit; parents Rev. Willie Davis Grant and Ada Victoria Fussell Grant; and siblings Betty Sue Slaughter, Amy McDaniel, and Diane Sharp.

She is survived by her children Anita Richardson (Jason) of Carriere, MS, Barbara Curtis of Cleveland, Shirley Curry (Harry) of Lucedale, MS, William Kenneth “Kenny” Cupit of Ocoee, James “Gordon” Cupit of Ocoee, Carolyn Cannatella of Cleveland, Lela “Denise” Griffin (Thomas) of Vero Beach, FL, Donald Cupit of River Ridge, LA, and Sherry Davenport (Daniel) of Cleveland; siblings Daniel Grant, Florine Hite, Shelby Grant, Mildred Grant, Charlotte Lawson, Wanda Matlock, and Jerry Grant; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2020, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Reverend Jerry Grant and the Reverend Mike Wallin officiating.  Interment will follow in Hayes Shed Cemetery. A white dove release ceremony and playing of bagpipes will conclude the service.  Robert Cannatella, Daniel Davenport, Dan Davenport, Tom Griffin, Harry Curry, and Daniel Curtis will serve as pallbearers.  The service will be live-streamed on Ralph Buckner Funeral Home’s Facebook page for you to view.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 11, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
