Joyce Higgins

September 4, 1931 — March 2, 2024

Joyce Higgins, 92 passed away at her home surrounded with family on March 2.

Joyce’s love of music started at an early age from her parents Jesse and W.F. Ellis and all of her music teachers in Alabama. Her music career started at Tennessee Tech where she and Crill were very active in the music on campus.

Her love of music from Bocelli to Kenny Rogers and from Rachmaninov to Willie Nelson kept her house as vibrant as she was. We can’t forget about Fleetwood Mac though!

Her life was full of good food, music, family, camping, and being an organist at Broad Street United Methodist Church for 43 years. She loved directing the Chancel Choir.

She was a very accomplished pianist and gave many double piano concerts with Betsy Berry in Cleveland.

From music ringing from the rafters at church, the living room, to singing around the campfire, music was a vital part of her.

She is survived by her children Tim Higgins, David (Susie) Higgins, Sara Beth (Jeffrey) Ledford, Mary Joyce (Lany) Higgins. Grandchildren Jessica (Colby) Jenkins, Kendall Wright, Matthew, Daniel and Jacob Higgins, Savanna and Natalie Ledford. Great Grandchildren Corbin and Isaac Jenkins.

Her presence will always be felt when at the beach to toast to the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. So here’s to you mom, (Joycie), you will forever be in our hearts and minds.

In honor of Joyce’s wishes there will be a private celebration of her life.  Donations in her honor can be made to St Jude’s or to The Friends of the Smokies
