Marc Jason Lawson, 49, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020, following a brief illness. A graduate of Polk County High School, he was known to many friends as "Catfish" in recognition of his love for fishing. Mr. Lawson held a bachelor's degree in business from Jacksonville AL, State University, a master's of divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a master's in education from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Miss. A member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland, he was employed by Whirlpool Corp., at the time of his death.
Mr. Lawson was preceded in death by his father, George Gary Lawson, of Decatur, TN.
He is survived by his mother, Gail DeLay Ray, and step-father, Darryal Ray, of Maryville, TN; brother, CPT. M. Jeremy Lawson, M.D. and wife, Maureen of Sanford, N.C.; nephews Isaac, Jonathan and Asher Lawson; grandmother, Norma Jean DeLay of Cleveland; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A celebration of his life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Dr. Steve Linginfelter and Dr. Scott Linginfelter officiating. Honorary pallbearers will include; Richie Holmes, Tyler Keith, Don Pace, Chuck DeLay, Danny Lawson and Glenn Keith. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family requests that all who would like to attend to consider their health, and honor Jason by attending in person, or via the live stream of the service on the Ralph Buckner Funeral Home Facebook Page. Mask will be required for all who attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in Mr. Lawson's memory to the Baptist Collegiate Ministry of Cleveland State Community College.
