Janice Duncan

January 21, 1944 — August 3, 2021

Janice Dawn Duncan, 77, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN. She was a long time resident of Cleveland, TN and a member of the Broad Street Methodist Church. Ms. Duncan had worked as a Flight Attendant for American Airlines and had been a plant nurse for Duracell for 40 years. She was also a member of the Emmaus/Chrysalis Community where she served by coordinating Candlelight Services, as well as serving in her personal ministry of visiting the shut-ins and the elderly of her church. She had a heart for serving others and nursing was an integral part of her life. The family extends a sincere thank you to Legacy Village for their care and to her special caretaker, Vanessa Constant.

She was preceded in death by her parents Edwin Yates Duncan and Lona Lewis Duncan; and her brother Dr. Eddie Duncan.

She is survived by her sister Brenda Abel and husband Bob of Cleveland, TN; her brother Rick Duncan of Cleveland; her sister-in-law Ann Duncan of Cleveland; and her many beloved nieces and nephews: David Abel of Cleveland; Alan Abel of Acworth, GA; Stephen Duncan and wife Christy of Cleveland; Tucker Duncan and wife Cheryl of Cleveland; Tracy Needham and her husband Kenny of Knoxville.  She is also survived by many dear great nieces and nephews as well:  USMC Lance Corporal Raleigh Reid Abel of Cleveland; Conner, Avery, and Natasha of Acworth, GA; Jack Duncan of Knoxville and Lucy Duncan of Cleveland; Miles Duncan of Cleveland; Lindsey Duncan of Knoxville; and Hamilton Duncan of Nashville; MacKenzie Needham of Chapel Hill, NC and Stokes Needham of Knoxville, TN as well as several cousins.

A private Celebration of Life will be held Monday, August 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.at Broad Street United Methodist Church Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Betsy Switzer, the Rev. Debbie Stokes, and the Rev. Mary Parson officiating. There will be no visitations, due to Covid restrictions.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Broad Street Unity Center: 685 Benton Pike NE, Cleveland, TN 37311.
