James E Armour, Jr.

James E. Armour Jr. age 79 a resident of Cleveland passed away July 25, 2025. He served in the US Army Medical Corps for 22 years and served 18 months as a combat medic. He retired as a Sergeant First Class. After retirement he entered into the Tennessee State Guard where he served 20 years and retired as a Regimental Command Sergeant Major. In 2009 he joined the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and was placed as a Division 16 Commander.

While serving in the active military and auxiliary Jim received numerous awards and citations including two Purple Hearts for wounds received while serving in Vietnam, two Army Commendation Medals, seven Army Good Conduct medals, the National Defense award, NCO Professional award, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Vietnam Presidents Unit Citation, Vietnam Campaign Medal with two stars. While in the Guard he received the received two Distinguish Service awards, Meritorious Service Medal, Coast Guard Leadership award and the USCG Commendation award. In 2004 he received the Bradley County Raymond Miller Patriotic Veteran of the Year award.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Doris Armour, daughters, Inga Hobbs, Margaret Martinez, Tammy Nunley, son Jeffery J. Armour, step son Randy Longley, step daughter Annette Campbell, numerous grandkids and great grandkids. He is the son of the late James E. Armour Sr. and Margaret L. (Geren) Armour, and was also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Webb and brother, Doyle Armour.

A funeral service will be held at 7 PM, Wednesday, July 30, 2025 in the chapel of Poole Funeral Home with Rev. Guinn Green officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 PM Wednesday prior to the funeral service. Interment will be held in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors at a date and time to be announced.
