Fred James Brown, Jr.

March 6, 1931 — June 10, 2022

Fred James Brown, Jr, 91, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away June 10,2022. He was born March 6, 1931.  Fred was a well-known painter and paperhanger in Cleveland and Chattanooga before his retirement.  He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church. He was also a proud member of the Bradley High School Class of 1948 and loved attending their class reunions. Fred enjoyed his Saturday morning Breakfast Club and visiting the Bradley County Farmer’s Market, but his best times were with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred, Sr., and Adelia Millaway Brown; sister, Nancy Helton; son, Dal Keith Brown; and great-granddaughter, Novella Kate Fulghum.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Betty Franks Brown, daughter and son-in law, Susan and Ricky Butler; four grandchildren, Andrew Butler (Morgan), Allison Fulghum (Michael), Dal Brown (Kelsey Macarthur) and Cole Butler; great-grandchildren, Charlie and Benton Fulghum and Nolan Brown; brother, Clyde R. (Bit) Brown (Barbara); as well as two sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Fred’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Reverends Adam Reuss and Tom Wickes officiating.  Interment will be private with Andrew Butler, Cole Butler, Ricky Butler and Dal Brown serving as pallbearers.   A white dove release ceremony and the playing of bagpipes will conclude the service.

His family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 on Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Broad Street United Methodist Church at 155 Central Avenue NW Cleveland, TN 37311, or to the charity of your choice.
