Edna Ruth Geren

Edna Ruth Geren, 72, a resident of Cleveland, passed away at her home on the evening of August 8, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Her loving husband Dennis, who had also been her devoted caregiver, was by her side. She was born in Speck Hospital in Cleveland, TN on July 14, 1951.

 In her early years Edna worked at Hardwick Clothes and Plaza Flower Basket. Later, in 1982 the Geren family opened Wallpaper Plus later, Wallpaper Connection. It was at the wallpaper store where she was best known and well-loved as partner/manager of the family business. She cherished being able to work alongside her mother-in-law, Leona Geren, her children, Angie and Brad, and her nieces, for many years. Edna loved working with the public and coordinating colors. She built personal relationships with customers that keeps them coming back to this day.

Edna Geren was preceded in death by her parents, Hairle Hayes and Lucille Hayes Carlock; sisters, Sheila Dunn and Tamara (Kay) Cronan; brother, Preston (Bo) Hayes; grandmothers, Lula Babb and Trixie Hayes; grandfathers, Jim Gregg and Charlie Hayes and aunt, Ruth Catlett.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 52 years, Dennis Geren; daughter, Angie (Mark) Herron and granddaughter Amelia Herron; son, Brad (Chrissy) Geren and grandchildren Nicholas and Addie Geren; brother John Hayes and sister Hazel Allen of Cleveland, and sister Helen (Wayne) Sipe of Newnan, GA; several nieces and nephews, and her aunt Barbara Rayburn of Cleveland.

Edna loved being with Dennis and their family, whether it be in the kitchen teaching the grandchildren to bake, or spending time at Parksville Lake on their houseboat. She loved to laugh and enjoyed taking family vacations with her children and grandchildren. Walking on the beach, being in the sun, looking for shells, and just making memories.

A celebration of her life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 14, 2023 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Guinn Green and Reverend Marvin Eskew officiating.  Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Monday, at the funeral home, just prior to the service.
