Dorothy “Dot” Ann Sewell, 75 of Ooltewah, TN went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 30th, 2023.
Dorothy was born and raised in Newark, OH and graduated from Utica Senior High School. She attended Liberty Church in Birmingham, AL and Marrietta, GA, Living Word Christian Fellowship in Hayesville, NC, and Shoal Creek Baptist Church in Murphy, NC. Dorothy retired from Marriot as a Food Service Director. She worked in facility food service for schools, universities, and other facilities. During retirement, Dorothy worked as a real estate agent in Murphy, NC. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, making smock dresses and was known for her beautiful crocheted butterflies. Dorothy also served as a Missionary to Russia and Guatemala. She learned enough Russian to schedule Bible school events and coordinate with the local authorities. Dorothy’s passion for people and Jesus knew no bounds; she even dressed as a clown and entertained with puppets to teach people about Christ. Dorothy was always willing to share her deep love for her Lord and Savior. She loved to share her faith no matter what state her health was in. Dorothy made friends with anyone and everyone, even someone who called the wrong phone number. She had a servant’s heart and a passion for giving that will never be forgotten.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Naomi Holmes; son, Jerry Lynn Shoults; sister, Virginia Swick-Sawyer; brothers, Joe and John Holmes.
Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Earl Randolph Sewell; daughter, Janel “Jill” (Andy) Willoughby; step-children, Dawn (Alex) Smith and Michael (Stephanie) Sewell; grandchildren: Ashley, Stephanie, David, and Katherine Willoughby, Briski Cauthen, Caitlin Shoults, Jordan Thompson, Noel Shoults, Ellyot Smith, Natalie Smith, Austin Sewell, and Skylar Sewell; great grandchild, Tanner Cauthen; siblings: Helen Anderson, Margaret Bruce, Kenneth Holmes, Kay Foster, Donald Holmes, Ruth Holton, and Becky Kirkendall; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 3rd, 2023 from 2pm until the funeral hour at 3pm in the Poole Funeral Home at 3000 Ralph Buckner Blvd. NE Cleveland, TN 37311. Interment will follow in the Lee Cemetery.
