Cyrus Dewayne Hooper

January 16, 1936 — November 18, 2019

Cyrus Dewayne Hooper of Cleveland, TN, passed away with peace and grace, in the presence of his family on Monday, November 18, 2019 at the age of 83.

He was the President and Owner of Hardwood Frames of America, where he worked for 35 years, and retired at 70 years young.  One of the things he most enjoyed in life was gathering with family and friends each weekend on his houseboat at Lake Ocoee.  Many meals, cups of coffee, and laughs were shared, beautiful memories were made and now treasured.  His love of boating and water likely began when he was young, serving in the United States Navy.  He loved serving his country, and his family so enjoyed listening to the stories of his travels and adventures.

It was after his time in the Navy that he met his wife of 55 years, Judy Clayton Hooper.  Family and faith became the hallmarks of his life, Jesus was most definitely his guide and friend.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland for 45 years, where you could find him serving faithfully as a Sunday morning greeter.  He truly lived by Colossians 3:23, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord."

Undoubtedly, Dewayne's grandchildren were two of his greatest loves. He was an active and engaged grandfather, and much of who his grandchildren are today is a reflection of his love and generosity. Lilly and Gray reciprocated that same adoration for their Pop, as did his daughter, Julia and son-in- law Lee.  He will always be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather, whose deepest joy was showing love to his family.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Aldon and Almeda Hooper; son, Andrew Clayton Hooper; and brother in laws and sister in laws, Max and Patsy Carroll and Glen and Virginia Greene.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Clayton Hooper; his daughter, Julia Hooper Glover, son in law, Donald Lee Glover; and grandchildren, Lilly Clayton Glover and Grayson McCall Glover, all of Lookout Mountain, TN.  He was blessed with many nephews and a niece: David Carroll (Jerome), John Carroll (Holli,Ben and Jax), Gary Greene (Diane), children April Perry (Tom, Jordyn and McKynzie), Stephanie Pariani (Brian, Jessica and Giana), Bernt Greene (Kate), niece Debbie Watson (David), Clay Watson (Clayton and Kennedy), and Katie Tipton (Taylor, Virginia Grace and Knox).  Other family members include: Judy Hooper, Rick Hooper (Marcia), Mark Hooper (Kim), DeMarr Melton, Bob Fortney, and special friends Wilma and Carrie Cross.

Interment will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2019 at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.  Following the burial, the family will receive friends at First Baptist Church in Cleveland, TN, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.   A Celebration of Life service will follow at 4:00 p.m., and a reception will immediately follow the service at the church.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Dewayne's name to the Generations Fund at First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 2368, Cleveland, TN 37320.

We invite you to send a message of condolence and view the Hooper family guestbook at www.ralphbuckner.com.
