Charles Michael "Mike" Boggess

January 25, 1957 — July 27, 2023

Charles Michael “Mike” Boggess passed away Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Tennova Cleveland, with his loving family by his side. He was born in McMinn County and lived in Cleveland his entire life. In his early teen years he helped his father launch their family business, Bradley County Security Service. He also started out as a Bradley County Rescue Explorer during this time. In 1977 he went on to work as an EMT with Bradley County EMS, and also became active in Bradley County Rescue. In 1984 he became Rescue Chief, (being only the second in the history of the service). During the same time period he worked at Independent Communications (Motorola Shop). After leaving the Motorola Shop, he became Chief of Bradley County Security, until he went full-time with the Bradley County Sheriff Department in 1988, where he rose to the rank of Captain, before retiring in 2018.

Mike gave his all to the community, and he sacrificed much. He was frequently working on standby or working an emergency. He was a mentor to hundreds involved in emergency public service. Through this mentorship he has left an undying legacy, and will always be remembered by those who knew him as one who sacrificed to help others. There is a Bible verse that speaks about giving humbly, sacrificially, and without expectation or glory…Hebrews 13:16 speaks of Mike Boggess.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Lee Boggess; mother-in-law Willa Curry; his step-father, Charles Beaty; his grandparents, Charles and Mary Hayes; and a sister, Denise Boggess Culpepper.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kim Curry Boggess; two children, Christy Boggess Peden (Micheal) of Crandall, GA, and Michael Lee Boggess (Geneva) of Cleveland, TN; his mother Betty Sue Beaty of Cleveland, TN; four grandchildren, Caleb Peden, Luke Peden, Ethan Peden, and Kyle Boggess; four siblings, Elaine Boggess Wear (Donnie) of Cleveland, TN, Gary Boggess of Oak Ridge, TN, Patricia Boggess Boone (John) of Murfreesboro, TN, and Lisa Boggess Stanton (Cameron) of Cleveland, TN; a sister-in-law, Cassandra Booth; five brothers-in-law, Larry Curry (Lynne), Terry Curry (Margaret), Tim Curry (Lola), Hank Curry, and Christopher Curry (Teri). Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A celebration of his life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at North Cleveland Church of God with Richard Taylor, Dewey Woody, and Sheriff Steve Ross officiating.  Interment will follow in Johnston Cemetery with Bradley County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard and Bradley County Fire and Rescue serving as pallbearers.  Caleb Peden, Luke Peden, Ethan Peden, and Kyle Boggess will serve as honorary pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony and the playing of bagpipes will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends at the North Cleveland Church of God on Monday, July 31, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
