Catherine Ann Norwood

July 9, 1936 — November 11, 2021

Mrs. Catherine (Cathy) Ann Norwood, age 85, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 11, 2021 after a brief illness. Catherine was a kind & wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was affectionately known as “Nana” and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Catherine was born in Bayonne, New Jersey to the late Gustav and Helen Schwyzer.  Although she was born a “yankee”, Catherine considered herself a southerner.  She lived in Cleveland, TN for over 46 years.

Catherine was a longtime member of Broad Street United Methodist Church. She loved her children, grandchildren and many friends. Throughout her life Catherine enjoyed traveling the world, playing golf & bridge, crocheting, sewing, and reading. She was also an active member of her sorority.

In addition to her she parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Schwyzer, a sister, Marlene Schratter and grandson, Charles Norwood.

Those left to cherish Catherine’s memories include her husband of 66 years, Verrill Norwood Jr. and her children, Verrill Norwood III (Amy) of Cleveland, TN, Kathleen Greene (Randy) of Richmond, VA and Jeffery Norwood. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, two of whom she was especially close to: Randal Greene (Julie) of Richmond, VA and Katherine (Kate) of Johnson City, TN. She and Kate were best friends and enjoyed many cruises & trips to Disney together. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law Kenneth Norwood (Joan) and a sister-in-law Coleen Schwyzer.  Catherine was blessed with her first great-grandchild, Lucy Catherine Greene, on June 1, 2020. She loved and adored her dearly.

A service to honor the life of Catherine Ann Norwood will be conducted at Broad Street United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 20 @ 3:00. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Broad Street United Methodist Church prior to the service.
