Catherine Sutherland Freeman of Benton, Tennessee passed away February, 18 2021 in Ft. Pierce, Florida. Catherine was born March 23, 1924 in Leith, Scotland. She was serving in the British Army when she met an American GI. They married in Scotland. In 1946 she and her infant daughter came to America aboard the Queen Mary. The couple went on to have 9 more children; 5 boys and 5 girls. She leaves 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Many stories and fond memories from her lifetime, we are all proud to be descendants of this amazing, resilient, and vastly extended Scotch-Appalachian line they built together.
Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by her husband, GB Freeman; daughters, Sandra Jones, Brenda Henry; and son, George Freeman.
She is survived by her 3 daughters; Anna Murphey of Cleveland, TN, Dot Freeman of Ft. Pierce, FL, and Margie Ross and husband, Marvin of Benton, TN; 4 sons, Randy Freeman of Hixon, TN, Boyd Freeman of Pikeville, TN, Robert Freeman and wife, Kim of Athens, TN, and Jack Freeman of Benton, TN.
A graveside celebration of her life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Reverend Joe Brooks officiating. A white dove release ceremony and the playing of bagpipes will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 24th.
