Brenda Kaye (Smith) Wingo, age 73, passed away peacefully at CHI Memorial on November 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Brenda was a remarkably intelligent and talented woman, affectionately nicknamed “The Great Knower” by her family. She had a lifelong love of reading and possessed an incredible memory—she could answer nearly every question on Jeopardy! A gifted interior decorator with an impeccable eye for detail, Brenda brought beauty and warmth into every space she touched. She also enjoyed life’s finer things, including her fondness for Gucci and elegant style.
Deeply connected to her community, Brenda created a Signal Mountain and Walden Facebook page that grew into a thriving online community, connecting countless people and fostering local spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Raymond and Mary Smith, brother; Michael Alan Smith, former husband; Thomas Mitchell Rayburn, and special aunt; Gertrude Kilpatrick.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 13 years; Kenneth W. Wingo, children; Nisa Hooper (Charlie) and Tria Montgomery (Jeremy); step-son; Jonathan Wingo; brother; Tim Smith, sister; Missy Wilson, aunt; Lynne Duggan, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Poole Funeral Home, with Brother Jerry Stephens officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the start of the service. Interment will follow at South Liberty Cemetery, where Brenda will be laid to rest beside her daddy, whom she dearly loved.
Brenda’s warmth, wit, and wisdom touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
