Bobbie Elizabeth May, age 92, of Harrison, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, January 12, 2026.
Bobbie was affectionately known to many as “Mammow” or “Grammy.” She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose family was the heart of her life. Bobbie had a kind and beautiful spirit that touched all who knew her.
For many years, Bobbie expressed her creativity as a costume designer for Center Stage Dance Company, where her talent and dedication were deeply appreciated. In her earlier years, she worked as a dental assistant and proudly served as President of the Chattanooga Dental Assistant Association. She was a member of Bayside Baptist Church in Harrison.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Edwin Newell May; her parents, Arless and Bonnie Balinger; her sister, Eva Hinkle; and her granddaughter, Sarah Hinkle.
She is survived by her children, Deanne “Dee” Dunn and husband Jim, Richard “Rick” May and wife Paula, and David Hinkle and wife Heather; her grandchildren, Victoria René Dunn’Achata and husband William “Bill”, Cynthia Davis and husband Danny, Adrian May Ricketts and husband Caleb, Emily Kight and husband Chad, and Anna Hinkle; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 17th, 2026, at Poole Funeral Home, 3000 Ralph Buckner Boulevard, Cleveland, from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m. A chapel service will follow at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor Todd Poteet of Philadelphia Baptist Church at Oak Hill Road, Chattanooga officiating. Burial will follow in Earl’s Cemetery in McDonald, Tennessee.
