Billy Farrel Wooten, age 96, of Chattanooga, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 26, 2025. He was born February 17, 1929, in Cleveland, Tennessee.
He was the son of the late Edgar Wooten and Nina-Lee Harmon of Cleveland, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Reba Jean Wooten. Bill and Reba moved to Elyria, Ohio, where they lived and raised their family for 35 years. As young parents they boarded a bus with an infant son in search of employment. Bill often said he got off the bus with $2.00 in his pocket. They were members of Church of the Open Door. After retirement, they returned to Tennessee and settled in Chattanooga, where they attended Brainerd Baptist Church.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his son, Randy (Shirley) Wooten and daughter, Lorie (Doug) Watson; grandsons Jeff Wooten and Brady Watson; granddaughters Julie Wooten, Jennifer Wooten Hendricks (Daniel) , Libbey Watson Bono; great-granddaughters Emily Farmer, Katie Wooten Steele (Austin), Janie Wooten, Alli and Bailey Hendricks, and Presley Bono; great-grandson Watson Bono; and great-great granddaughters Ella Coleman and Everly and Eliza Farmer.
He was a beloved Uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is survived by sister Wanda Martineau of Blue Ridge Georgia, sister Beverly Coker and sister-in-law Joan Wooten both of Ocala Florida. He is preceded in death by siblings Gerry Rowlands, Betty Willet, Harold Wooten, Lillian Yongue, Bobbi Trew, and James Wooten.
Bill was loved by everyone who met him. He was the life of the party and brought light into the room. He always had a song to sing or a joke to share. He played the guitar and enjoyed music, especially the old hymns. He loved to plant vegetable gardens. He was known for his signature hats - and at every Christmas or birthday celebration he could be caught with a bow stuck on his head. He was a man of deep faith. Upon his death the contents of his wallet was $2.00. He would be the first to tell you that from the beginning to the end the Lord blessed him richly with family and friends and took care of all his needs.
Family and Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 11:00 am in the Legacy Room at Silverdale Baptist Church with lunch to follow.
