Ben DeArmond Callaway
Ben DeArmond Callaway, of Cleveland, passed away at his home Wednesday, April 19, 2023 with family beside him.
Ben attended Arnold School, the Tennessee Military Institute in Sweetwater, Tennessee and Georgia Tech Institute of Technology. He graduated in 1956 with a degree in Industrial Management. He was a member of SAE Fraternity.
After selling his interest in Callaway Grocery to Loye Hamilton, Ben began a long and successful career as European manager of American Uniform Company.
Baptized in the Methodist Church, he later was confirmed in 2009 in the Episcopal Church by Bishop Charles Rosenburg.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Luke and Bozzie Callaway; his brother, Luke Lea Callaway; sister-in-law, Nancy Callaway; and daughter-in-law, Jeannette Callaway.
He is survived by Betty Callaway, his wife of 47 years; his children, Ben Callaway (Mary), Tom Callaway, Dan Callaway (Stacey), Kate Buckner (Ken); their mother, Carolyn Callaway; his sister, Linda Callaway; his grandsons, Andy and Max Callaway; his niece, Melanie Bird; his nephew, Lea Callaway; and his children by marriage, Sam Horner (Lou), Curt Horner (Anne), Joe Horner Moore (Ben), and Knox Horner.
Ben’s greatest joy was his family who will forever love him and remember him for his devotion as husband, father, and grandfather.
A celebration of his life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with Reverend Joel Huffstetler, our loving friend, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., in the Parish Hall, just prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Callaway plot at Fort Hill Cemetery at a later date.
