William Herd

January 3, 1929 — April 19, 2006

William "Tom" Herd, age 77, resident of Cleveland, passed away on Wednesday morning, April 19, 2006 at his home. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was also the owner and operator of TH Tech. He was a member of the National Poet Society where he received many awards. He was a past president of the Phillips Man?s Club and an avid bridge player with the Cleveland Bridge Club. Mr. Herd was the son of the late Lonnie and Lela Herd and was also preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Herd Smith. He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Lola Herd of Cleveland; four children and spouses, Lonnie and Linda Herd of Atlanta, GA, Kelly and Janet Herd of Cleveland, Janet and David Roberts of Colonial Heights, VA, and James T. and Theresa Herd of Cleveland; eight grandchildren: Michael Roberts of Richmond, VA, Scott Roberts of Denton TX, Lance Herd of Atlanta, GA, Jared Herd of Los Angeles, CA, Brittney Ford of McMinnville, TN, Jeremy Herd, Matthew Herd and Jacob Herd all of Cleveland; one great-grandson also survives. Funeral services will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Stan Gibson and Reverend Tom Moncrief officiating. Grandsons and members of the Cleveland Bridge Club will serve as pallbearers. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2006 in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. His family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006 prior to the service at the funeral home. .
