Gene Tunney Scott, age 78, went to meet the Lord and his loved ones gone on before, on Saturday, November 25, 2006. He was a well loved preacher and member of Samples Memorial Baptist Church. He was employed for 40 years with the former Maples Chair Company. He loved outdoor sports such as hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Alva Nell Scott and stepson Danny Thompson; parents, Bill and Nora Scott; brothers, Roy (Tumpy), William (Junior) and James Donald Scott all of Cleveland. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Don and Edna Scott; daughter-in-law, Brenda Thompson; three grandchildren, Dane Thompson, Joei Burnette and Jami Turner; six great-grandchildren, Damion, Lexi, Jade, Ashley, Raven and William; one brother and sister-in-law, Walter (Corky) and Evelyn Scott; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Gladys Chapman all of Cleveland. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Samples Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Lee Ingram, Pastor Mike Rymer and Pastor Randall Headrick officiating. Interment will follow in Samples Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. His family and friends will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. Monday at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and also 2-3 p.m. Tuesday at Samples Memorial Baptist Church prior to the service.
