Mary Elizabeth Smith Rogers, or “Mamaw” as she was known by many, passed away August 28, 2014. A resident of Cleveland, she was born September 30, 1934. She was a loyal member of Black Fox United Methodist Church where she attended most of her life and married the love of her life in 1952. Elizabeth meant the world to her family and was loved and adored by all who encountered her. Many remember Elizabeth for her wonderful cooking, kind heart, and the happiness she brought so many with many years of making Barbie clothes for arts and crafts festivals.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Flossie “Granny” Smith; her husband of 59 years, Edward Leighton Rogers; her brother-in-law, Tommy Rogers; and her sister-in-law, Mary Rogers Moore.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory until meeting once again, her sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Carolyn Rogers, James and Diane Rogers, Donald Rogers and fiancé, Carlene Renner; her daughter and son-in-law, Allorah (Lorrie) Rogers Duke and Billy, all of Cleveland; Grandchildren, Lindsay Rogers, Jeremy Rogers and wife, Stephanie, Jennifer Rogers, Stacey Rogers, Travis Duke, and Emily Duke, all of Cleveland, Jason Rogers of Smyrna, TN, and Josh Rogers and wife, Julie, of Spartanburg, SC; Great-grandchildren, Jarrius and Sanara Rogers, of Cleveland, and Sasha, Xan, Brennan, and Rebecca Rogers, of Spartanburg, SC; her brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Lib Smith; and her sisters-in-law and husbands, Ellen Jean and Henry McSpadden and Martha and J.P. Brown, of Cleveland; several other extended family members, church family, and many dear friends.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 31, 2014 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Travis Humbard officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be “ALL” who carry Mamaw in their hearts.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.
