Bertha Marie Thomas

December 16, 1934 — September 5, 2014

Bertha Marie Hembree Thomas, 79, a lifelong resident of Decatur, passed away Friday, September 05, 2014 in a Chattanooga healthcare facility.  She was of the Baptist faith.  She enjoyed poetry, gardening and writing. 

 Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Thomas; son, Marvin Woodrow; parents, William Edgar Hembree and Vernice Lucinda Lovinggood Hembree; and 8 brothers and sisters.

 She is survived by her children:  Wilma Darlene Gaston and husband, Rex of Cleveland, Paul Douglas Thomas and wife, Linda of Cleveland, Cindy Leona Holloway and husband, Don of Decatur, Edward Jerome Thomas of Decatur, Norman Scott and wife, Irma of Arlington, Texas, and Teresa Carol Scroggins and husband, Mickey of Etowah; 23 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; she is also survived by three sisters and one brother.

 Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2014 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Day officiating.  Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.  A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

 The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2014 at the funeral home.
