William Aldrich Sr.

William (“Bill”) Aldrich, Sr., MD, was born in Lincoln, NE to Floy and Carl Aldrich. He was husband to Betty McWhinny Aldrich (deceased) for over 50 years. As Bill often said, “She gave me six beautiful children”. His five surviving children are William Aldrich, Jr., MD, Nancy Brupbacher, Sylvia Aldrich, Jeanne Higgins and John Aldrich. Bill was grandfather to Jonathan Aldrich, Matthew Dunson, Brian and Rachel Brupbacher, and Shannon, Brett and Parker Higgins. His great-grandchildren are Sierra and Evelyn Aldrich. Bill’s sister, Pat Kelsey also survives him. His infant son preceded him.
Dr. Aldrich ministered to the physical and emotional needs of untold thousands of patients from the San Diego, CA environs and later, Cleveland, TN.
Bill had a brilliant mind and graduated in the top 10% of his medical school class. He earned the distinguishment of placing first in Anatomy in his National Board exam.
A man with keen interests in the world, he had many talents, interests and hobbies. He was truly a “Renaissance Man”. He enjoyed photography, horticulture and organic gardening, boat building, fishing, sailing, playing the flute, poetry, 5k and 10k marathons, working out at the YMCA, back packing, continuing education in languages, and visiting Elderhostels with his wife.
Above all he was a lover of all living things, from his children to his pets and his barn-yard creatures.
Bill was a member of his college glee club, a lifelong supporter of the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, the American Medical Association, the Cleveland Music Club, and the Cleveland YMCA.
Bill was a very tender hearted and ethical, honorable man who thoroughly enjoyed his 92 years of life.
He will be greatly missed by his family and by his faithful and loyal dog, “Woolly Bear” who remained steadfastly by his master’s side during Bill’s terminal illness.
