Doyle L. (Gabby) Lawson, 76, a resident of Cleveland who was a loving husband, father, brother and friend, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014. He joined his wife, Wanda; son, Anthony and many loved ones in heaven.
Doyle was a former member, deacon and Sunday School teacher at Tasso Baptist Church but was presently a member of Michigan Avenue Baptist Church. He retired from Olin Corporation after 37 years of service. He was an avid Tennessee Vols fan and a master gardener, tending the many acres of “D&W Day Lilies”. He was affectionately known as the “Lily Man”.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanda, son, Anthony Lawson, mother and father, Berdie and Paul Lawson, brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred Lawson, George Lawson, Dr. French and Jane Lawson, Penny and Jean Lawson, Sgt. Major Charlie and Jan Lawson; brothers-in-law, Phillip Ownbey and Bobby Ray and former wife, Edna; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tom and Vona Ray.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving son, Jeff Lawson and his German shepherd, Sadie (who could often be seen riding in the passenger seat of his truck); sisters, Jean Ownbey and Sue Presley and husband, Royce all of Cleveland; sisters-in-law, Joyce Coleman and husband, Ronald Coleman of Smyrna, TN; Claudine Lawson of Cleveland and Edith Ray of Newport, South Carolina; many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of friends and his church family at Michigan Avenue Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the Michigan Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor David Peters officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Derek Presley, Johnny Lawson, Shane Geren, Tyler Bramlett, Tim Millians and Bart Chase serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
