Eugene Monroe Thompson

April 5, 1928 — June 29, 2014

Eugene Monroe Thompson, 86, passed on to glory on June 29, 2014. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend.   He was born on April 5, 1928 in Bradley County, TN.

             Eugene retired from the Dupont Company in Chattanooga after 33 years of service and had been engaged in raising cattle since 1958.  He was member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher of Adult Men’s Class for 52 years. Eugene Thompson leaves a legacy of love and faithfulness to the Lord.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille Bagby Thompson and Franklin Monroe Thompson of Cleveland, TN; also sisters, Bobbie Adkerson and Jessie Nichol and brother, William B. Thompson, all of Cleveland, TN. 

 He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lucye Tarkington Thompson of Cleveland, TN; one daughter, Lucy Elaine Steinle and son-in-law, Alan Dean Steinle of Cohutta, Ga and one son, Eugene Wesley Thompson and daughter-in-law Ruby Weaver Thompson of Gainesboro, TN; five grandchildren Jenna Steinle Fitzgerald, Kalen Dean Steinle (wife Lana), Amy Thompson (Josh) Mendenhall, Travis Wesley Thompson, and Hollan Victoria Thompson.  He is also survived by one brother, Warren Thompson (wife Melanie) of Austin, TX and several nieces and nephews.

 Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Huff officiating.  Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery with the adult members of his Sunday School class serving as honorary pallbearers.

 The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and also from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church prior to the service.

 Memorials may be given to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church – 7619 Blue Springs Rd, Cleveland, TN 37311 – to further God’s kingdom.
