Patricia Ann Walker “Pitty Pat” Watson of Cleveland, TN passed away July 9, 2014 at Bradley Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center where she had lovingly received care since December 2011. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Wright Walker of Cleveland, OH, her father Harold DeFord Walker, Sr. of Germantown, TN, step-mother, Tempe Livingston Walker, and a brother, Harold DeFord Walker, Jr., of Eads, TN. She is survived by her devoted husband of sixty-six years, Richard Bruce “Dick” Watson, Sr. of Cleveland, TN, five children, Annelle Watson Hines, of Garland TX, Richard Bruce Watson, Jr., of Piperton, TN, Walker Hall Watson of Franklin, TN, Lucretia Watson Horner of Cleveland, TN, and Clayton Wright Watson, of New Bern, NC, a brother Dr. Richard Harold Walker of Jacksonville, FL, a sister, Tempe Walker Chancellor of Germantown, TN, eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Patricia, formerly of Germantown, TN, Highlands, NC, and in recent years, Canton, NC, received a BA in from the University of Georgia. She was an elementary school teacher prior to becoming a homemaker and a bookkeeper for the family business, Walker Machine Products, Inc. which was located for many years in Germantown, Tennessee and later in Collierville, TN. She was a devout Christian and a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church in Cleveland, TN. Formerly she was actively involved as a member of Germantown United Methodist Church in Germantown, TN, Highlands United Methodist Church in Highlands, NC, and in later years, a member of Junaluska United Methodist Church in Junaluska, NC.
She was a civic leader as past President of the Suburban Garden Club, the United Methodist Women’s Club, and the Germantown Women’s Club. She was also a member of the Germantown Heights Garden Club. She served these organizations in one role of another for over twenty-five years. She was a member of the American Association of University Women where she was an advocate for supporting lifelong learning opportunities for women, a member of the Oak Grove Hunt Club, and a supporter of the Germantown Charity Horseshow. She provided countless service hours as a Pink Lady for a number of years at Methodist Hospital and as a volunteer for the Friends of the Pink Palace in Memphis, TN. She was Treasurer of the PTA for M.C. Williams School, a Girl Scout Leader, a sorority parent for Sigma Sigma, Beta Chapter, a fraternity parent for Sigma Alpha Omega, and a Lady Lion supporting her husband with Lion’s Club International all while living in Germantown. In later years she was a volunteer for Haywood County Meals on Wheels in Canton, NC.
Pat was a world traveler. She and husband, Dick, traversed the country in their motor home for more than twenty years exploring all 50 states. They also vacationed in several countries over the many years together. In 1986, Pat and husband, Dick, retired in Highlands, NC where they became active hikers and hike leaders for the Highland Hikers Club. Pat was passionate about nature, dogs, children, visual arts, and classical music. She was a prolific artist and a member of the Highlands Art League and Studio Live in Highlands, NC for more than fifteen years. In the most recent years she made her home in Canton, NC where she continued to paint. Of late, she and husband, Dick made their home in Cleveland, TN.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Pastor Debbie Stokes and Pastor Randy Martin officiating. Interment will be held at the Lott Cemetery in Waycross, Georgia on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. with Reverend Dwayne Smith officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the staff of Bradley Healthcare and Rehab Center for their loving tender care of Pat.
