Joseph S. Cannatella, Jr., 72, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 in a local hospital. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and retired Superintendent of the New Orleans Harbor Police Department with 25 years of service. Also, Joe Cannatella was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FPO) Crescent City Lodge # LA002, the National Rifle Association, and Michigan Avenue Baptist Church.

Mr. Cannatella was the son of the late Joseph S. Cannatella, Sr. and Elaine Basile Cannatella; and was also preceded in death by three brothers: Thomas, Ronald and Anthony Cannatella.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Renee Cannatella of Cleveland; five children: Joseph Cannatella, III of Hammond, LA; Kevin Cannatella of Gramercy, LA; Lisa Stein and husband, Mark of Kenner, LA; Brian Cannatella and wife, Shelley of Kenner, LA; and Robert Cannatella of Cleveland; eight grandchildren; one sister, Althea LaCour of Gretna, LA; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor David Peters officiating. Interment will follow in Hayes Shed Cemetery in Michigan Avenue Community with military honors. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at the funeral home prior to the service.
