Loreda Hughes

August 17, 1928 — March 1, 2014

Emma Loreda Hughes, 85, a resident of Cleveland, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, March 1, 2014, with her loving family by her side.  She was a member of Thompson Springs Baptist Church but attended Spring Place Church of God of Prophecy prior to her illness.  She retired from Duracell after 28 years of service to be a caregiver for her husband prior to his death in 2001.  She worked as a caregiver for several years before her health declined due to Parkinson’s disease.

Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Harold Blaine Hughes; parents, Ples Burris and Elma Burris; Brothers, Clifford and Carlos Burris; sister, Anita Chamberlain.

She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Frazier Mathews and husband Ken; son, Jimmy Hughes and wife Linda; grandchildren: Tim Frazier and Keith Frazier of Cleveland, Carla Watson and husband Tony of Madisonville; great grandchildren: Nathan and Brad Nix and Catherine Frazier; sister, Sue Burris of Cleveland; brothers: Lester Burris and wife Pat of Cleveland; Rev. Max Burris and Sue of Cincinnati, Ralph Burris and Ellen of Cincinnati, Glenn Burris of Cincinnati and Ronnie Burris and Donna of Indiana.  Several nieces, nephews and other extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Ken Mathews, Sue Burris and the Reverend Max Burris officiating.  Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with grandsons, Tim Frazier, Keith Frazier, Nathan Nix, Brad Nix, Tony Watson and Sean Holland serving as pallbearers.  A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the funeral home prior to the service.
