Ruby Leola Poteet Williams
September 1, 1927 — March 20, 2014
Ruby Leola Poteet Williams, age 86, passed away peacefully in a Chattanooga hospital on Thursday, March 20, 2014. She was a virtuous woman; indeed her price was far above rubies and was a very gentle soul. She was active for many years at East Side Church of Christ. Even in her later years, she found ways to be of service to many. She was a graduate of Bradley Central High School. She worked in insurance most of her life for various agents.
She canned her own homegrown vegetables and gave away the abundance of her garden to many of those who knew her. She was a hard working wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be missed greatly.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Lester H. Williams; parents, McKelva Ann Poteet and Thomas Luther Poteet; brothers: Frank and Bill Poteet.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Judy Nipper and Bob of Charleston; granddaughters and husbands: Candace Hammond and Adam of Armuchee, GA, and Nicole Cornett and Steve of Woodstock, GA; great-grandchildren: Rebekah, Josiah, Levi, and Caleb Hammond all of Armuchee, GA, Hailey, Abigail, and Braydon Cornett of Woodstock, GA; special nieces: Mary Ella Younes, Frances Patterson, Ruth Ann Freeman, Rebecca Daughtery and husband, Patrick of Florence, AL.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the East Side Church of Christ with Minister Jeff Archey and Minister Bill Maynard officiating. Interment will follow Sunset Memorial Gardens with Levi Hammond, Josiah Hammond, Adam Hammond, Steve Cornett, Darrell Thomas and Michael Thomas serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Caleb Hammond and Braydon Cornett. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service.
