Bobby Gene Smith, 68, a lifelong resident of Birchwood, passed away at his home on Friday, November 29, 2013, surrounded by loving family and friends. He was of the Baptist Faith. He retired from Dixie Portland Milling Co. after 30 years of service. He also was an Angus beef cattle farmer and a NASCAR fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Haskel and Mabel Lane Smith; his brother, Danny Allen Smith; a sister, Irene Smith Scroggins; and a special nephew, Roddy Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Donna Swafford Smith of Birchwood; one son, Daniel Blaine Smith and wife Kelly Lynn of Birchwood; one daughter, Kendall Lane Smith, also of Birchwood; one brother, Harold Smith of Sand Mountain, AL; a sister, Evelyn Lewis of Montrose, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 2, 2013, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home, located at 3000 Ralph Buckner Blvd. in Cleveland, officiated by Pastor Josh Cornelius. Interment will follow in McInturff Cemetery in Birchwood. Serving as pallbearers will be Bud Suttles, Matt Hilliard, William Latour, Farrell Arnold, Jordan Nease, and Daniel Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Keef and Jack Latour.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday,
December 1, 2013, at the funeral home.
