George Kenneth Ames Jr.

George Kenneth Ames, Sr., 87, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in a local healthcare facility. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Virginia Tech. He was retired from Olin Chemicals after 36 years of service as an electrical engineer. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in WWII in the Pacific.

Mr. Ames was the son of the late Rufus and Lillian Ames and was also preceded in death by his brother, Carroll Ames.

Survivors include his wife, Freida Allison Ames of Cleveland; children: George Kenneth Ames, Jr. and wife, Alice Ames of Cleveland, and Susan Ames Srite and husband, Jim Srite of Chattanooga; grandchildren: Eric Srite and Brian Srite both of Chattanooga; step-grandson, Jason Phillips; great-grandchildren: Davin Phillips and Christian Phillips; sister, Emily Briddell of Salisbury, MD.

A gathering of friends will be held 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
