Takeshi Ozawa

Dr. Takeshi Ozawa, 70, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 7th, 2014.  Dr. Ozawa was born in Osaka, Japan on September 23rd, 1943. He attended Chiba Medical School outside of Tokyo.  After completing an internship at a U.S. Army base in Japan during the Vietnam War, he entered a residency program in Internal Medicine at Maricopa County Hospital in Phoenix where he met Judy Hintz, his wife of 40 years.  He later became an assistant professor of Nephrology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and then at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). He published over twenty research articles in professional medical journals. In 1982, he moved his family to Cleveland, TN where he practiced medicine in the Bradley County area for 25 years. Dr. Ozawa strongly valued high quality care for elderly patients.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Ozawa enjoyed golf, especially making a hole-in-one at The Farm in 2000.  He also loved traveling to Central and South America where he studied Spanish and tango.  He was a parishioner of St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Ozawa, of Cleveland; children:  Jennifer Ozawa of Arlington, VA; Heidi Contractor and husband, Hamir, of Acworth, GA; Ted Ozawa and wife, Marcela, of Seattle, WA; three grandchildren:  Lewis Wearmouth and Isla Wearmouth, both of Arlington, VA; and Carter Contractor of Acworth, GA.

A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 18th, 2014 at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm on Friday, January 17th, 2014 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
