Barbara Gene Hilliard, 80, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014, in a Chattanooga nursing facility. She was a graduate of Bradley Central High School and attended Carson Newman College. She worked as a teller with Cleveland National Bank for twenty years and also with the Bradley County Registrar of Deeds office for ten years. She was a parishioner of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church where she was active in the choir and a church volunteer. She was also a former member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, B. D. and Helen Million Hilliard, and one brother, Bobby Hilliard.
She is survived by her cousin and caregiver , Wayne L. Mathis and his family, Charles Mathis, Hannah Ruth Mathis and Cheryl Hoskins Mathis; and cousins: Ken Hilliard, Darien Gay Bacon, Peggy Gay Morgan, Sandra Gay and Cindy Silverbrock.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Dr. Joel W. Huffstetler officiating.
Her family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the parish hall of the church prior to the service.
Her family requests that memorials be made to the Choir Robe Fund of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 320 Broad Street NW, Cleveland TN 37311.
