Cayce A. Whaley, 86, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Monday, September 2, 2013 in a local hospital. He attended New Hope Primitive Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Marines serving in WWII and was also a member of the American Legion in Doraville, Georgia. He was retired from General Motors with 37 years of service. Mr. Whaley was the son of the late Tom Whaley and Minnie Huskey Whaley and was also preceded in death by five sisters, Viola Ellen Randolph, Maggie Belle Cantrell, Maxie Kate Davis, Minnie Lou Wilson and Mary Edith Henry; two brothers, William Conard Whaley and Cleo Jackson Whaley. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edna Gates Whaley of Cleveland; one brother, Thomas Whaley and wife, Frances of Ft. Wayne, IN; sister-in-law, Edna Whaley of Maryville, TN; many nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Elder John Robbins officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Nathan Davis, Jason Davis, Steve Davis, Gary Davis, Mike Wilson and W.C. Whaley serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Whaley, Greg Whaley, Buddy Henry, Thomas Randolph, Seth Davis and Phillip Gehron. The family will receive friends from 12- 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service. The family suggests memorials may be made to your church or the charity of your choice.
