Dana R. "Papa" Smith, 86, passed away Friday, October 4, 2013, in a local hospital. He was a member of East Side Church of Christ. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Cherokee Beagle Club and raised and trained beagles. He also was a field trial judge for many years. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Smith; mother, America Smith Lyle; stepfather, George Lyle; daughter, Teresa Ezell; granddaughter, Lisa Smith; two sisters; and seven brothers. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Wanda Ledford Smith of Cleveland; two sons, Charles Smith and wife Veronica of Griffith, IN and George Smith of Cleveland; three daughters, Dana Bottoms and husband Robert Gene of Cleveland, Jawauna Layman and husband Rodney of Harriman, TN, and Tammy Kinser and husband Joe of Cleveland; fourteen grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren: and also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2013. at the East Side Church of Christ with ministers Jeff Archey and Bill Maynard officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with grandsons serving as pallbearers. The service will conclude with military honors and a white dove release ceremony The family will receive friends from 3:00 -7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
