Joyce Faye Wagar

Joyce Faye (Elliott) Wagar, 73, a longtime resident of Cleveland, TN, died unexpectedly, on Thursday, the 4th Day of August 2011 at her Cleveland home. Mrs. Wagar was born October 23, 1937, in Cleveland, TN, to Leonard Calloway Elliott and Marie (Gibson) Elliott. Joyce married her childhood sweetheart, Philip Ashel Wagar, on April 30, 1952, in Cleveland, TN. Her husband became a pastor of the Church of God of Prophecy, and pastored at several places in East and Middle Tennessee. She was an active and faithful member of the Church of God Zion Hill in Cleveland. Joyce was always on the go; she would leave early in the morning and go all over Cleveland, visiting with friends, shopping, and just having a good time. Mrs. Wagar could brighten up a room with her smile, and also her humor; she could make a person or people laugh at the drop of a hat. She was also a loving and caring woman who never hesitated to tell someone how special they were and that she loved them. She made a huge difference in the lives of everyone she came into contact with. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Callaway Elliott and Marie Gibson Elliott; her brother, Richard Grover Elliott; her husband, Philip Ashel Wagar; her brother, Dennis Wayne Elliott; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Ann Elliott, all of Cleveland, TN. She is survived by her sister, Melvie Elliott Moore, of Cleveland, TN; her 2 children, Debra Wagar Simmons and husband, Tom, of Clarksville, TN; Julia Wagar Wilson and husband, James, of Estill Springs, TN; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; several nieces; and several nephews. Visitation will be 12 Noon to 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at the Ralph Buckner Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 4:00 PM on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at Church of God Zion Hill, 193 Tillie Road, Cleveland, TN 37312.
