Command Sergeant Major Gary Lee Coffey, 64, a resident of Cleveland, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at his home. He was of Baptist faith. Retired CSM Gary L. Coffey of the United States Army served his country during the Vietnam and Dessert Storm wars. His last command was of the 143rd Signal Battalion 3rd Armor Division. He was a graduate of Bradley Central High School. He was also a member of the Tri-County Sportsman Club where he served as the club treasurer and was an avid bass fisherman. CSM Gary L. Coffey was preceded in his death by his father Orville C. Coffey, mother, Pauline Brackett Coffey and daughter, Nancy M. Smith. He is survived by his wife, Patricia K. Coffey of Cleveland; daughters, Lisa K. Dailey and husband, Michael of Cleveland and Jennifer M. Sawyer and husband, Joe of Crothersville, IN; four grandchildren, Michael L. Epps, Justin T. Smith, Kayla M. Barnett and Joseph M. Sawyer; two great-grandchildren, Braedon L. Epps and Kolton R. Epps. He is also survived by his aunt, Arlene Coffey Marr and several cousins from Cleveland. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2012 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Reverend Victor Hayes and the Reverend Tommy Marr officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with full military honors and a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the funeral home.
