John Henry Johnson

John Henry Johnson, 81, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Friday, January 6, 2012 in a local healthcare facility. He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church for nearly forty years. He was active in the Kelly Sunday School Class where he was the former president and teacher. He retired as Associate Professor Emeritus in Accounting from Cleveland State Community College after twenty years of service. He was the former Fleet Manager at Hardwick Stove Company. He was a fourth generation beef cattle farmer in Bradley County. He was Vice President of the Board of Directors of Farmers Union Mutual Fire Insurance Company. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in the Finance Corp. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and was a member of the Cleveland Elks Club. Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Pledger “Bub” Johnson and Eula Vesta Colley Johnson Myatt. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy Hurst Johnson of Cleveland; two children, Dr. Jeffrey Hurst Johnson, cardiologist at U.T. Medical Center and wife, Sharon of Knoxville and Jennifer McClure of Westchester, Ohio; five grandchildren, Andy McClure of Columbus, Ohio, Jon Hunter Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Joshua Johnson and Jenna Johnson all of Knoxville; two uncles, Jen Johnson and Mick Johnson both of Cleveland; several cousins also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2012 at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Debbie Stokes and Reverend Reed Shell officiating. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in Chilcutt Cemetery with military honors. His grandsons and Chris Lowe will serve as pallbearers. The Kelly Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers at the funeral service. His family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the church prior to the service.
