George W Albritton

CSM_Ret. George W. Albritton, age 91, died on Sunday, October 23, 2011 in Cleveland, TN. He was a member of Big Spring United Methodist Church on Hardwick Street. He was active in the Lee Atchley Rescue Squad. He was also active in the CCC Camp before World War II. He was retired from Bradley Health Care and Rehab after many years of service in maintenance. He served his country as a Master Sgt. in the United States Army Air Force, base unit at Hunter Field, GA during World War II for four years. He received the Victory Medal among other service medals and ribbons. He continued his military service as a volunteer in the 402 Tennessee Defense Force from 1989 until 2004. His service extended to the Headquarters 5th Division of the United States Service Command as Command Sgt. Major-Ret. In 2006 he was honored with the Award of Excellence for Outstanding Military Service. He was awarded the “Key to the City” in 1991 for his volunteer service to the Bradley-Cleveland Area from Mayor Tom Rowland. He was a charter member of American Legion Post 81 and entertained the gentlemen with his cooking from time to time. He was a member of the V.F.W. # 2598 & a.m. Vets. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Theodocia “Doshie” Moore Albritton, his wife Inez Vance Albritton and son John Albritton of Cleveland. His brothers Luther, Lake, Asa, Elmo, Richard, John Foy and Gayle Albritton, as well as sisters, Stella Howard, Iona Guffey, Gladys Poteet and Jenny Albritton; two uncles, Hibbard and Homer Albritton, also of Cleveland, and a special friend, Wanda Faye Lawson of Cleveland. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Albritton and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2011 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Grady Simpson officiating. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2011 in the veteran’s section of Fort Hill Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be his nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the Tennessee Defense Force. His family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service. Contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 81 or the V.F.W. of Cleveland, TN in George Albrittons name.
