Robert Lee Thompson, 68, a resident of McDonald, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2011 in a local hospital. He enjoyed fishing, Nascar and radio controlled airplanes. He was a Blister Mechanic at Duracell for 34 years and he was a member of the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics). He was also a member of Bancroft Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Frances and Helen Pauline Goodwin Thompson. He is survived by his three children, Robbie Thompson McWhirter and husband, Jeff of Cleveland, Cheryl Thompson Laub of Midway, UT, and Lynne Thompson of Savannah, GA; five grandchildren, Meredith Leah Freeman and husband, Jonathan of Cleveland, Megan Lyn Howard and husband, Clint of Cleveland, Mason Jones of Cleveland, Bridger Dawson Laub of Midway, UT, and Payton Hamilton Laub of Midway UT; two great-grandchildren, Lilli Payton Freeman and Hunter Jerome Howard, both of Cleveland; sister, Charlotte Cain and husband, Joe of Cleveland and long time girlfriend, Dora Johnson of Cleveland. He is also survived by two nephews Gregory and Benjamin Cain of Cleveland. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Reverend Jim Burris officiating. Interment will follow in Bancroft Cemetery with Jeffery McWhirter, Mason Jones, Jonathan Freeman, Kenny Benson and Gregory and Benjamin Cain serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at the funeral home.
