Daniel A. McCoy, Sr., a resident of Old Fort, passed away Monday, November 14, 2011 at the family residence. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II and served on the first wave at Omaha Beach. He received a Bronze Star, two purple hearts and a silver star with diamond clusters and numerous other medals. He was first vice-commander for the VFW Post #2598 for several years. Mr. McCoy was a kind and gentle man. Mr. McCoy was the son of the late David Alexander McCoy and Dora McGowan McCoy and was also preceded in death by his wife, Monique H. McCoy; one son, John M. McCoy; three sisters, Edith Harvey, Bonnie Davis and Dovie Caldwell; one brother, Grant McCoy. He is survived by his son, Daniel A. McCoy, Jr. of Old Fort; four grandchildren, Stanley Alexander Martz, Christopher David McCoy, Angela McCoy and Amy McCoy; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; six nieces, Brenda Carter wife of Fred Carter, Julie Works wife of Darryl Works, Debbie Walker wife of Jack Walker, Mary Frances Healan, Vickie Swiger and Milteen Green. A memorial service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2011 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Brooks officiating. Inurnment will be held in Volusia Memorial Park in Ormond Beach, Florida with military honors. His family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2011 at the funeral home prior to the service.
