Vernell Houck Cook

Vernell Houck Cook, 89, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in an Ooltewah healthcare facility. She was a member of Central Church of Christ. She and her late husband relocated to Cleveland in 1954 with the opening of Bowaters Corporation. Mrs. Cook was the daughter of the late Ray and Beulah Houck and was preceded in death by her husband Harold Cook who passed away in 2002. She is survived by her two sons and spouses: Harold and Jane Cook of Beaumont, TX and Bob and Pam Cook of Ooltewah; four grandchildren: Piper Cook Swiger and husband Chad of Cleveland, Kaitlin Cook of Knoxville, Heather Haak and husband Lee of Bedford, TX and Sarah Smith and husband Robert of Beaumont, TX; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2011 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Minister Tom Harrison officiating. Interment will be held Monday, November 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.
