Lorane Baker Shelton

August 16, 1918 — October 7, 2011

Lorane Baker Shelton, 93, a lifelong resident of Bradley County, passed away Friday, October 7, 2011. She was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church and served as a greeter for many years. She graduated from Bradley Central High School and Tennessee Wesleyan College. She began her teaching career in the Bradley County School System and retired from the Cleveland City School System in 1975. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles David “Dave” Shelton; son-in-law, Richard Allen “Dickie” Norton; parents, James Owen Baker and Icye Gilbreath Baker; and sister, Margaret Baker Crabtree. Survivors include her daughter, Janice Shelton Norton of Ooltewah; grandsons: David Shelton Norton and wife, Molly of Cleveland; Daniel Shelton Norton and wife, Amber of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren: Richard Carter Norton and Robert Hudson Norton both of Cleveland; along with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 11, 2011 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Reverend Dwight Kilbourne officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Jonathan Schultz, Michael Brock, Jake Shelton, Michael Shelton, Rob Schultz, William “Chip” Whitaker and Bill Chandler serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 2-4 P.M. Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the funeral home prior to the service.
